Dear 5th and 6th Grade Parents,

This week in our Israel class we mostly talked about each of our own personal ancestral backgrounds, namely where our ancestors came from and how we came to be where we are now. We will return to this theme later on since ancestry and inheritance are ideas that played a large role in early Zionist thought and continue to influence life in Israel today, as well as how we relate to it. I've asked students to learn more about where their ancestors came from, so please remind them about this if they forget to ask you. We also briefly discussed how the current demographics of Israel, vis-a-vis Ashkenazim, Sephardim and Mizrachim, are not what Herzl would have expected in 1900, and we will return to the process of how this came to be as we move forward with the class.

Hope you and your kids are having a good week!

May you be sealed for a good and sweet year!

Best,

Daniel
