1st/2nd Grade 10/26/14

Dear 1st/2nd Grade Families:

In addition to learning about Jewish holidays, part of this years curriculum for the 1st/2nd graders is prophets. What is a prophet, you ask? Someone who is a messenger for God. On Sunday, we learrned about our first prophet - a man named Abram (Abraham). He believed that the entire universe was the work of a single creator and began to teach this belief to others.

We read a biblical picture book called Abraham's Search for God. This story is from the book of Genesis. Please ask your child to tell you 2-3 facts they learned about Abram. The children liked the story, and we followed it up with an art project. The project is in reference to Genesis 15:5-6 where "[God] brought [Abram] outside and said, 'Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.' Then he said to him, 'So shall your offspring be.' And he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness." This is how Abraham became known as the father of the Jewish people.
